On New Year’s Eve, 1975, three armed men broke into the Mahoney home and murdered Dr. Hugh Mahoney, his wife Ruth, and their 15-year-old son, John. It was a gruesome, heinous crime that left the three Mahoney daughters in shock and despair. It fractured the peaceful community of Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Forty-one years later, people remember that horrible night as it forever changed the town and surrounding areas.
Dr. Hugh F. Mahoney was an OB/GYN and delivered thousands of children throughout Middlesex County. He was admired and loved and stories abound, to this day, of his incomparable care, compassion and renowned skill as a surgeon. Ruth Mahoney was a Registered Nurse and loved caring for people in her community. She lent a helping hand whenever she could to neighbors and friends. John Patrick Mahoney was a freshman at Austin Prep, an avid hockey player – one of those kids who always had a good word to say about everyone. These three very special people will never be forgotten.
